{"id":19323,"date":"2021-07-29T16:06:06","date_gmt":"2021-07-29T14:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.schneider.systems\/?p=19323"},"modified":"2022-12-08T17:04:52","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T16:04:52","slug":"microsoft-sql-server-and-windows-server-2008-and-2012-extended-security-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.schneider.systems\/lu\/microsoft-sql-server-and-windows-server-2008-and-2012-extended-security-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft SQL Server and Windows Server 2008 and 2012 Extended Security Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Extended Security Updates (ESU) are critical if you want to continue safely running <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schneider.systems\/lu\/microsoft-windows-server-2025-secure-scalable-and-ai-ready\/\">Windows Server<\/a> and SQL Server workloads on versions that are out of support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Extended Security Updates for the 2008 versions have been available since regular support ended, but will themselves end on the following dates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Extended Support ends on July 9, 2022 and<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schneider.systems\/lu\/microsoft-windows-server-2008-and-2008-r2-on-azure-extended-security-updates-esu-available\/\">Windows Server 2008<\/a> and 2008 R2 Extended Support end on January 14, 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you\u2019re running these older products in Azure then you get 3 years of <strong>free<\/strong> Extended Security Updates <strong>until<\/strong> these dates, and Microsoft have just announced that <strong>one additional year<\/strong> of Extended Security Updates will be available <strong>only in Azure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Furthermore, for<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft SQL Server 2012 regular support ends on July 12, 2022 and<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schneider.systems\/lu\/microsoft-windows-server-2012-end-of-support\/\">Windows Server 2012<\/a> and 2012 R2 regular support ends on October 10, 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3 years of ESU will be available <strong>after<\/strong> these dates and available for <strong>free <\/strong>for customers running these 2012 versions <strong>in Azure<\/strong>.
